Historical Context

A tribute to the national anniversary:Issued to celebrate Oman's 40º National Day (1970–2010), this banknote uses a G+D hybrid substrate that integrates a polymer core laminated with outer layers of protective paper, combining the strength of plastic with the friction and tactile relief of traditional paper —a different approach to the pure Guardian® polymer used by other central banks.1

Key details

  • Obverse:portrait of Sultan Qaboos bin Said wearing a traditional turban; at center, Sultan Qaboos University and its Clock Tower; the National Emblem (a khanjar dagger over crossed swords) in both upper corners.
  • Reverse:the fortified city of Nizwa, with its defensive tower and the dome of the Al-Qala Mosque; the “40th NATIONAL DAY” logo in the upper area.
