Historical and Issue Context

From paper to polymer:The Central Bank of Chile introduced the polymer version of the 2,000 peso bill in September 2004, gradually replacing the paper note issued since 1997 with the same central design.⁴This specimen, dated 2009, corresponds to the family of the Bicentenario Series (2009–2024).

A tribute to the first Latin American Nobel Prize winner:Gabriela Mistral (Lucila Godoy Alcayaga, 1889–1957) was the first Latin American citizen to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature, in 1945; her portrait appears on this denomination in recognition of his poetic and intellectual legacy.
