Two Presidents on one Bill

The obverse portrays Rafael Núñez, poet and statesman, architect of the 1886 Constitution and Colombia’s political Regeneration, with a vignette of the Ermita del Cabrero in Cartagena. The reverse shows the seated statue of Miguel Antonio Caro, writer, philologist, and vice president who drafted the 1886 Constitution, surrounded by the names of the former United States of Colombia (1863–1886): Antioquia, Bolívar, Boyacá, Cauca, Cundinamarca, Magdalena, Panamá, Santander, and Tolima.

All three specimens bear the red overprint “SPECIMEN” or “NO VALUE SAMPLE”, zero numbering and cancellation perforations, and are distinguished from each other only by the date and serial prefix.
